Photography: Vintage Chicago

Vivian Maier Vivian Maier Vivian Maier

This is a fascinating story: photographer John Maloof purchased a large lot of negatives and undeveloped film rolls from a Chicago estate auction. The images turned out to have been taken by a lady named Vivian Maier, a French immigrant who spent most of her life in the city taking pictures of it's streets and inhabitants.

Since the find, Maloof has been developing the films and posting them on a blog dedicated to her work. You can see more images from the collection at Chicagoist.

On a related note, there are some earlier images by Wayne Miller in this gallery of Chicago's South Side at Granta.
