Gordon Matta-Clark: Splitting
Avant-garde artist Gordon Matta-Clark trained as an architect before moving into art, where he concentrated on subverting his craft. From the Met Museum web site:
“Compelled to focus attention on the dehumanization of the modern world, Matta-Clark developed a personal idiom that combined Minimalism and Surrealism with urban architecture. Using abandoned buildings for his medium and wielding a chainsaw as his instrument, he cut into the structures, creating unexpected apertures and incisions.”
The pictures above document 'Splitting', one of his later works. There's also an interesting paper on Matta-Clark by James Attlee at the Tate site.

Comments
The Pulitzer currently has a Matta-Clark exhibition with images from "Splitting" as well as "Splitting: Four Corners" on view. Amazing!
We'll be posting more information on an online catalogue here, including an interview with Jane Crawford (Matta-Clark's widow) where she talks about Splitting.
