The Golden Age Of Air Travel

CAPTION CAPTION CAPTION CAPTION CAPTION CAPTION

This afternoon I finally got around to watching a documentary called High Flyers: How Britain Took to the Air, which I downloaded from the BBC iPlayer two weeks ago (sadly it's no longer available). The programme talks about the 'Golden Age' of air travel; a time when British Imperial Airways, subsidised by the government, ferried wealthy passengers and diplomats to the far reaches of the Empire in luxury.

I loved the adverts shown in the programme, illustrated in that dynamic '20s/'30s style, so I've tried to track a few down for this post. There's a comprehensive collection of information on Imperial Airways here - sadly there don't seem to be high resolution images available of the advertisements. The Art of the Airways by Geza Szurovy also looks a good resource.

Thanks Amy, glad you enjoyed the post; it was a fascinating documentary and really piqued my interest. Sadly the days of silver service air travel are long gone, the best you get now is some microwave pizza in a box...
